Life for a number of ABAC student athletes changed drastically last summer and
there are still a number of mixed emotions among former basketball players.
After ABAC President David Bridges announced last year that the ABAC men and women's basketball teams would be eliminated due to budgetary cutbacks, the student athletes who were involved were left stunned and surprised.

The ABAC women's tennis team defeated Young Harris College, 8-1, on Thursday, Feb. 26.
This victory was their first win at home for the 2009 season.
Prior to this match, the Fillies had defeated Central Florida Community College and St. Petersburg Community College, but had lost to Florida Community College and the University of West Florida, to start off their spring season.

The men's golf team opened up their spring season in Montgomery, Ala. on Feb. 23-24 for the Wynlakes Wynter Nationals hosted by Huntington College.
The Stallions finished tied for 3rd in the event with a team score of 318-314 for a two-day total of 632. The 10-team event of all four-year colleges included Huntington College, Rhodes College, Huntington "B", ABAC, Linfield College, Alabama State University, LaGrange College, Faulkner University, Sewanee, and Talladega College.

With the 2009 NFL Draft being only a few months away, the Detroit Lions have the number one pick this year after an embarrassing 0-16 record last season.
Matthew Stafford, quarterback from the University of Georgia, is likely to be their choice. Stafford is known for his very strong and accurate throwing arm which could possibly be exactly what Detroit needs to bounce back from their long run of losing seasons.

The Atlanta Braves were very close to signing future Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr. for the upcoming season until a falsified story published by David O'Brian of the Atlanta-Journal Constitution hit the stands.
