The POST Council oversees the certification of all Georgia's law enforcement personnel. In addition, the Council also oversees the school curriculum for every police academy in the state.
The board is made of 19 voting members in total that are, for the most part, split between two committees; a Training Committee, and a Probable Cause Committee. The board has the responsibility to train new recruits, but also the power to revoke the license of any law enforcer they find deserving.
Golden was contacted and asked if he was interested in being a member of another board. Although he declined that offer, he made it known that he did desire a spot in POST. Within a matter of weeks he was once again contacted, and offered the position that he desired.
Golden has been a member of the POST Council in the past, and he is eager to pick up where he left off.
"I am obviously very excited about this opportunity," Golden said. "I have been with many different organizations and outside ABAC, the people at POST are the hardest working staff I have ever been around."
Golden served a one-year term with POST earlier, but will serve this time for a period of four years. He will be a voting member of the board until April of 2013. Although the majority of POST meetings will be held in Clarkston, they will be moved around the state from time to time.
Golden is excited to use the training that he received and the experience he has gained to help mold the next generation of law enforcement.
"It is a pleasure to work with people that care about what they do," Golden said. "This is exciting because the POST members really do care."
Golden has been in law enforcement since 1987 and will attend his first meeting of the term with POST on March 11.
In addition to earning a Bachelor of Arts degree from North Georgia College, Golden holds also a Master of Public Administration from Columbus State University (CSU) to his resume. Golden is also a graduate from CSU's Georgia Law Enforcement Command College.
