The ABAC radio station, WPLH, has decided to include a dating game on the station's broadcasting schedule. One reason why the station is doing this is to increase the number of listeners of the station.
"It's never been done before," Keith Perry, advisor of WPLH, said. This is going to be a new venture for the station, and there are hopes for it's successful outcome.
"We want to branch out," Perry said. The station has hopes that this idea will broaden their stations entertainment plans.
"I have been trying to come up with ways to promote the station to give students a reason to listen in," Keith Lee, WPLH Station Manager, said. "It's a hard job getting students to listen when you are competing with mainstream radio stations with big budgets. We want to encourage students to listen to WPLH as it is a great outlet for news and announcements."
The first broadcast of the game will debut on Wednesday March 25, at 6 p.m. According to Lee, there will be more dating games planned for April, depending on the success of the broadcast.
Those interested in, and wanting to apply to participate as a bachelor or bachelorette can do so by emailing Keith Lee at wplh@stallions.abac.edu. In return, applicants will receive a short questionnaire to complete. After the selection process, determined by the info provided, applicants will be called for a follow up interview.
"We plan on having one bachelor and one bachelorette involved and we will need three contestants for each," Lee said. The bachelor's and bachelorette's identity will be known by the contestants, but the bachelor or bachelorette will have no idea who the contestants answering their questions are.
The participants will not see each other during the game. The three unknown contestants will answer questions asked by the bachelor or bachelorette while they are in the office, and the other is sitting in the station booth.
The game will be broadcasted live on the air that night and listeners can participate along with the bachelors and bachelorettes. Listeners will be able to vote on who they think should win. Directions on how to vote can be accessed during the show that night.
