Eighteen of ABAC's finest young men took part in an interview, essay contest, line dancing, and an on-stage evaluation in effort to be named the next Mr. ABAC, on Feb. 19.

The Family and Consumer Sciences (FACS) club was proud to present the 18th annual Mr. ABAC competition. The 18 contestants were each representatives from an organization on campus, ranging from the Agri-business club to the Ambassadors and everything in-between.

This year, freshman Junior Chapman, an Agricultural Education major, was declared Mr. ABAC.

"I am proud to have the opportunity to represent my peers and am honored to be Mr. ABAC. I had a blast at the contest and am glad we were able to help FACS in their fund-raising efforts," Chapman said.

The top five consisted of Junior Chapman, Tyler Poole, Solomon Abuharb, Ryan Reese, and Kyle Peters.

Each of the contestants was judged based on an essay competition, interview, and on their stage etiquette and persona. Stephen Saylor, an Agricultural Education major won both the Essay Award and the Contestant's Award. The Contestant's Award was voted on by the contestants and given to the individual who was most outgoing, friendly, and fun to be around during the practices and competition. Saylor was humbled to be the recipient of both awards.

"I wrote the essay from the heart about my poppy [grandpa] and I was extremely happy to win the essay and also the contestant award. It meant a lot to me," Saylor said.

Along with the Essay, Interview, and Contestant's Award, each competitor was awarded a special award that pertained to them individually. The Awards ranged from "Best Hair" to "Most Likely to Appear in a Western Movie" to "Most Likely to be on a Wanted Poster."

For many of the contestants, participating in a pageant-like competition was a new experience. Matt Kiley, an Agricultural Engineering Technology major, was one of those students who had never been in a competition like Mr. ABAC, but said he really enjoyed the event.
