The ABAC Arts Connection makes cultural events available, accessible and affordable. The series provides very high quality events at an affordable price for most anybody who wants to participate. The adult cost is about $65 and $15 for students 18 and under.

Arts and Entertainment is the name of the 2009-2010 series, which has just about anything for anyone. The first event of the series is in a special series called First Tuesday Performance series.

All of these performances are on the first Tuesday of each month and are located on campus in the ABAC Chapel at 7 p.m.. The first event is a cooperative concert, of all genres, between the UGA performing arts department from both the Tifton campus as well as the Athens campus and the ABAC Arts Connection.

The second event is Oct. 8 in Ocilla at the new Irwin County Auditorium.

This event involves Missy Raines and the New Hip. These artists create a new and exciting brand of music that is highly enjoyable and listenable. The group sings a mixture of bluegrass, contemporary country and even some progressive jazz. They call this newgrass. These original compilations put movement through your body from your head to your toes.

"She is dynamic. It is fun watching her perform because she has so much fun doing what she is doing. I hope that our students will at least consider going to this event specifically because of that," Wayne Jones, Interim Director of the ABAC Arts Connection, said.

Another event is scheduled for Howard Auditorium on Oct. 13. Robert Belinic, a young and talented Croatian guitarist, is the first guitarist to win a place on the Young Concert Artists roster in New York, and will be performing then at 7 p.m.. An onstage reception will be held.

The second event of the normal series is located in the Tift County Performing Arts Center on Nov. 17 and titled "Corbian: A Glow in the Dark Adventure." It takes place in a dark theatre, with absolutely no lights. The actors wear black costumes made with special light sticks that were invented by Ian Carney, the co-director and choreographer of the performance. The actors utilize ballet and dance to create the magnificent images of all kinds of creatures.

"It is the most amazing bit of theatre I've seen in years. The lights in the theatre are configured in such a unique way that the images will appear to be right in front of your eyes, those images are the actors." Jones said.

The Student Activities Board contributes to this year's series. Therefore it gives all ABAC and UGA students' access to the events by showing their student IDs. This has been a student luxury for over then years. This is a project supported by ABAC to help outside interests of the ABAC Arts Connection work with the performing arts department on campus.

Outside of ABAC, the Arts Connection works with other organizations to produce the series, as well as the Love Affair, Fine Arts Festivals, La Fiesta, and Del Pueblo. The Arts Connection also participates in arts & school activities and is a granting agency.

The Arts Connection was formed in 1976 and was originally created as a study office to bring art events to South Georgia.
