Coach Herb Hendrix is ready for the season, and he is excited about the players he has on his team.
ABAC's team is looking very strong compared to last year, and Hendrix believes that they have a great shot at making it to nationals.
Winston Gibbs a golfer that is on a hot streak, hit a 71 at a tournament hosted by Piedmont in Clarkesville, Ga. Gibbs was the low medalist at the tournament, having to go through a sudden death five hole playoff.
The team itself scored a 302 finishing in 5th place. Gibbs hit some tough shots and made some unbelievable puts to win low medalist.
Other players that made a huge contribution were Bernie Smith, Kaleb Ingles, and Bayne Mallory. Smith shot a 76 including Ingles, while Bayne Mallory hit 79. Piedmont ended up winning the tournament with a team score of 299. ABAC lost by three strokes.
"We have great shot at nationals this year. Darton is usually the school who takes it all, but we have players coming back this year with great potential to help out the team. So we have a good shot at beating Darton and making it to nationals, and hopefully we can make a run there." Gibbs said.
With hard practice and confidence the golf team has a good season awaiting them.
Winston and the team likes to spend time up at Spring Hill country club to work on their game before tournaments.
ABAC's next tournament is against Georgia Military, where Hendrix hopes to see a great performance from his team. This is just a small stepping stone for what is about to come for this team full of talent and leadership.
