Apocalyptic movies are common crowd pleasers, with plots that range from earthquakes to asteroids. "Zombieland" focuses on the swarming undead set to destroy the rest of humanity, and it does so in a humorous, unorthodox way.

The movie begins in small town America, which has been reduced to an apocalyptic wasteland. A college student and World of Warcraft-playing recluse, Columbus is one of the last uninfected and is surprisingly very good at staying alive. Columbus soon meets the Twinkie-obsessed Tallahassee, another survivor who has found his niche as a zombie slayer. They eventually join forces with two sisters, Wichita and Little Rock, and the four ride towards the Pacific coast in search of salvation and, of course, Tallahassee's beloved Twinkies.

Now, many of us have at one point entertained the idea of a zombie apocalypse and have devised plans for where to go, which weapons to grab first, and which supermarkets and hardware stores to raid before we meet a horde of zombies. Cleveland has thought everything from public bathroom avoidance to the "double tap" and these rules pop up at humorous and appropriate times.

For anyone who is familiar with "Dawn of the Dead" or the video game franchise "Resident Evil," you will know that zombies and gore go hand in hand. "Zombieland" definitely doesn't go light on the blood, so don't bring your seven-year-old cousin or your grandparents, for that matter.

This movie isn't just an empty gore-fest, which would be about as mindless as the zombies themselves, but it doesn't really have any deep meaning, either. It's a good movie in terms of making us laugh, shed a few tears, and then laugh some more. As the movie progresses, for example, we find out Tallahassee's tragic past. A second later we laugh when he wipes his teary eyes with a wad of twenty dollar bills.

If you are the type of person who can't hide your excitement at the thought of a zombie apocalypse, "Zombieland" is your best bet.
