From outdoor sports such as soccer to indoor sports like bowling, intramurals offer the best activities to provide students with a great way to meet friends and get active.

Intramurals are sports offered every semester by the college for students, depending on the semester. ABAC has been doing intramurals "forever and ever," Alton Hudgins, Intramurals Director, said.

This semester, intramural bowling and basketball tournaments will be starting soon. The basketball tournament will begin Jan. 25th in the Gressette Gym at 8 p.m. Turnout for intramural basketball is expected to be big this year. Students are free to come watch the games weeknights at the Gressette Gym.

Bowling is one of the college's more popular Intramurals. Teams will begin playing on Jan. 25 as well, but at Tift County Lanes on Second Street behind Badcock. Times are Mondays and Wednesdays at 5 p.m.

Intramural softball is another of ABAC's will be offered during the spring semester after Spring Break.

"In March, our softball league will get started. And that, typically, is our biggest sport," Hudgins said.

Most intramural games are played in the afternoon and evening after most classes are over, so students should not have a problem working some fun into their busy schedules. A list of sports, according to the athletics page on the ABAC Web site, are badminton, basketball, bowling, flag football, indoor and outdoor soccer, softball, tennis, and a fairly new sport known as pickleball.

This lineup of activities is intended to bring a sense of community to the campus, and continues to be a proud tradition established here at ABAC.

The sport pickleball combines elements of tennis, ping pong, and badminton. The game is played on a badminton sized court by using a slow moving ball and playing it over a tennis style net. ABAC held its first ever pickleball tournament last year in the Gressette Gym.

There is no charge for signing up, so anyone wishing to participate in these or any of the other intramural sports should look for an e-mail on their Stallions account for info about upcoming sports, or students can e-mail Hudgins at ahudgins@abac.edu.

Information on intramural sports is also posted on fliers and bulletin boards. The electric sign out near the student parking lot will display the dates the events will take place.
