Students can take a breath of relief knowing their stallion email boxes will be less cluttered.

The Student Government Association (SGA) has recently passed a legislation limiting the amount of emails sent out by clubs and other organizations.

According to Vice President of Student Affairs Gail Dillard, several students complained about their e-mail boxes becoming packed with meeting announcements for clubs they did not belong to.

"We saw an email system that VSU uses, in which they send out campus announcements twice a week," Dillard said. "So, Dr. Ross said maybe we could do something like this at ABAC."

After Dillard spoke with the SGA, they agreed the e-mails were an issue, and decided to implement this system at ABAC.

Dillard said this would not be a problem if the clubs would focus on sending emails only to their individual members.

"There's no need in the rest of us knowing when all the clubs on campus are going to meet," Dillard said.

According to Dillard, the SGA Club Coordinator prepared a list of alternate means for the clubs to contact their club members, including fliers and messages on the bulletin board outside the Dining Hall. Dillard also said clubs will still be allowed to post e-mails to all students, but only for a limited time.

"We will have a grace period of about a month at the beginning of each semester, so that clubs can send out announcements to all students, in case they want to attract new members," Dillard said. After the grace period, Dillard said the e-mails would stop, since "people who are in the club know when the club is meeting."

Dillard is unsure if this is going to work, since this has been an issue for so long, and attempts to solve it have failed in the past.

"We tried one time, a couple years ago, just saying you can't send announcements to students except for official announcements, and we were going to use the message board," Dillard said. "That didn't work because students were not on and not checking the message board."

Dillard said another means of solving this issue can be found in the up and coming for the ABAC website, allowing students to personalize it to suit their needs.

"So we would be able to post announcements on the website, so that students would get them," Dillard said.

The SGA has done everything it can to try and solve this issue. Only time will tell if this is a permanent cure or just a quick fix.
